I'm not sure about the math. Michelle has played a lot of tournaments & keep in mind that only 16 count for the rankings.
Regardless of all that...............assuming that there is a strategy here, her entry into these $25k tournaments suggests an approach that really requires that she wins at least one of these. Otherwise it doesn't make much sense. I do wonder how much of Michelle's scheduling is "strategic" & how much of it is just a matter of her having essentially settled for the week in week out ITF tournaments. There is certainly some appeal to this approach as being among the top seeds every week affords you the luxury of not playing anyone better than you...................but it also doesn't bring you much closer to the goal of getting back into the WTA
I think it's a financial decision. I would rather see her playing in WTA tournaments now. Also she needs an advisor in addition to her father. Her aunt and uncle live in Brussels. They were at the Brussels WTA tournament in May. What do you think of Michelle spending some time when the season is over at justine Henin's academy. Her game is too one dimensional and Justin showed what a small player can do with various facets to her game.

I agree. For better or for worse Michelle's was on a route that was geared to being a WTA pro. The fact that she is stuck in the ITF circuit must be a source of tremendous frustration, The fact that she's not able to breeze through these ITF events must be doubly frustrating. Growing up being #1 in your age group & having everyone tell you how great you are & how you're going to be top 10 in the world is a tremendous confidence builder................but if results start contradicting that, it can be a big psychological blow as well. Mentally I believe that is where Michelle has been the last few years.
I don't know anything about Justine Henin's academy but you're absolutely correct in that Michelle desperately needs input outside of her father. It's understandable why she doesn't do anything about this issue, but for those of us outside the solution of getting outside coaching seems pretty obvious.
